Cheer "Pick Up" Tryout Dates and Times

Prospective Cheerleaders and Parents,

I would like to invite all interested upcoming 6th- 8th grade students to a “pick-up” tryout for the 2019 cheerleading squad! In order to be able to try out, students will have to provide a copy of insurance card (front and back) and a physical (must be completed by doctor on TSSAA form, no exceptions.) Forms are available on the school website and in the school office. Please note that if your child has a physical for another middle school sport within the last calendar year, it will be sufficient for tryouts. Please give physical forms to the office.

Appropriate athletic wear and tennis shoes are required for tryout practices. For the actual tryout, wear red athletic shorts and a plain white short sleeve top. (No tank tops)

Prospects will be judged on execution of practice material, individual cheer, voice projection, motion technique, jumps, tumbling, cheerleading appropriate appearance, and school attendance. All tryout practices, tryouts, and team practices will be closed to the public.

Tryout Practice Wednesday May 8th, After school - 4:30

TRYOUTS Friday May 10th , After school until 5:00

  • Uniform and materials will be an out of pocket expense of approximately $270.00 for which parents will be responsible for paying. A uniform cost breakdown will be available after tryouts. This amount is due on July 1st. (Check payable to WMS) Please note that uniforms will be the same as past years.

  • We will not be attending overnight camp this year. Camp will be at WMS during the summer.

  • If your cheerleader decides to participate in another school sport, I will work around their schedule. It is expected that cheerleading will be a priority to your cheerleader.

  • We will purchase practice clothes to wear at every cheer practice. Red and black Nike shorts are to be purchased on your own.  We will purchase two T-shirts during the summer (approximate cost: $25.00 total that will be payable to maker of the shirt).

  • Fundraiser- on July 27th 7:30-1:30 all team members need to be at WMS to host little league camp. This will help us to pay to attend a cheer competition this fall.

  • This fall we will be participating in a local cheer competition. I think this will be a wonderful experience for the team to get exposure to competitive cheer.

  • Gymnastic classes will be offered to all team members by Coach Sha. We also highly encourage additional tumbling practice on your own at a local gym. These are individual skills your cheerleader will use for years to come.


We will be practicing throughout the summer. Scheduled summer vacations, other summer sport schedules and planned events will be excused for summer practices. Dates of vacations will be collected at the first practice. After all practice schedules have been accounted for, summer practice dates will be announced. Please note, if you do not participate in summer team fundraisers you will be required to do future fundraisers or pay your cheerleaders competition expenses.
