Welcome Back Letter (6th Grade Reading)

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents,

I am so glad to finally be back in school! I don't know about you, but I feel like I've been away from my kids forever!  I have certainly missed them!  Here are some things that are going to be happening in our Reading Class this semester.

Weekly Spelling Assignments

In order to help us prepare for TCAP and improve our reading skills, we will begin doing a weekly spelling assignment.  Each week, the students will have 16 basic spelling words.  We will go over these words every Monday and they will have assignments that are due on Thursday.  These assignments, which will be assigned EVERY Monday, are to be completed and ready to go over and grade EVERY Thursday.  We will have a spelling test EVERY Friday.  The reason I am emphasizing these words are to let you know that this assignment will take place every week.  So, if your child says they have no homework, you can check to make sure their spelling/reading work is done.  Tests will be sent home every Friday for you to sign.  All signed papers will result in +5 points.  Any papers not returned signed will result in a check in the planner every day until it is returned!

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is back in full swing!  Please be sure to sign your child's Reading Log every night.  Failure to do so will result in a check in the planner as well.  Our class has made such amazing progress and I am going to be pushing them to have their best year ever!

I am so proud of every student that I have in my reading class!  They are making great gains in reading and I am looking forward to another great semester.  Please give me a call if you have any questions or concerns.
